Sunday. Off to market, rain so heavy you would think we were on the island. Buying meat at the market is wonderful. There is a marvellous butcher who prepares the meat you are buying in such a way that it is almost a work of art. Last night I cooked a "sell d'agneau" a saddle of lamb which they fold into a ball, surround it with thin layer of fat, tied up.. so today we bought another one.. cook it saignant.. just to bloody… we also bought a shoulder, bien cuit.. cook it well. Always he gives advice. I wanted some pate…cannot get the accent to come,
so we bought a pate of goose and chicken.. excellent on little pieces of cucumber or courgette (zucchini) as a nibble with drinks. Then we bought a pate de "giber" filled with little pieces of green pistachios. This served with gherkins and a piece of lettuce and radish.. a lovely lunch.
the rain was so hard that it blew the small umbrella I had inside out.. so am soaked, might as well continue, bought a huge brioche.. do you want it with chocolate or apple or nature (plain) thought the nature one would probably suit all tastes,, but apparently should've bought the chocolate one. The brioche is about a foot wide and six inches high.. and altho I am not eating bread things a small morsel melted in my mouth. When we got home from the market there were delighted shrieks.. a brioche!!!and now half of it has disappeared. Of course , why did I not take a photo.. would make a change from the dog.
I am typing this in my bedroom which has a special cupboard and the xmas presents are stashed up high.. so suddenly a visitation of people … little colourful wrapped things are stashed up high.
